Nawaz Sharif was the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab during the election in 1988. He decided to contest the election on six seats, but he faced defeat on four of the four seats. At that time, he was contesting elections from the Islamic Democratic Alliance. The Islamic Democratic Alliance included the Muslim League-Nun National People’s Party and Jamaat-e-Islami.

This alliance had the support of the establishment, but despite this, Nawaz Sharif lost the election on 4 seats and won the election on two seats. Nawaz Sharif made negative propaganda against Benazir in this election and threw down the indecent pictures of Benazir from a helicopter and tarnished her character. Despite all this, Nawaz Sharif lost the election and Benazir was elected as the Prime Minister. At that time, Yusuf Raza Gilani was also among those who defeated him.

 

Nawaz Sharif lost the election from Okara Sahiwal Sheikhupura and Multan. He lost the election on two provincial assembly and two national assembly seats but he also won the election on two provincial assembly seats due to which he was re-elected as the Chief Minister of Punjab. He has been Prime Minister of Pakistan three times and Chief Minister of Punjab three times. After becoming the prime minister of Pakistan three times, he has been expelled three times for corruption. But now he is resting in London instead of serving his sentence.
