Sri Lanka Captures Russian Plane Colombo:
Sri Lanka seized a Russian plane and refused to send it back to Moscow.According to a report by a foreign news agency, airport officials said that a Russian-bound plane carrying about 200 passengers was seized in Sri Lanka on its way back from Moscow. An Aeroflot Airbus A330 – which arrived from Moscow on the first day and was not allowed to return following an order from the Colombo Commercial Court – said an official at Bandaranaike International Airport, north of the capital. Russia’s flagship carrier suspended all international flights in March following strict Western sanctions on Moscow over its attack on Ukraine, but resumed operations to Colombo in April. Russia’s civil aviation body had suggested that Russian airlines operating foreign-registered charter flights should suspend flights abroad to avoid seizure of aircraft due to sanctions. It was not immediately clear if the suspension was due to flight restrictions. Air Traffic Control said on condition of anonymity that “we do not know the reason but we have heard that it is related to a trade dispute.” However, Colombo Aeroflot has not yet commented on this.
