Karachi approves Rs 4.82 increase in electricity fuel charges.
Karachi National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on the request of K Electric (KE) has approved an increase of Rs. Additional charges will be levied in the June 2022 bill. At the request of K Electric, according to the rules and regulations, the public hearing of NEPRA was held on April 27. KEI said that between December 2021 and March 2022, the price of furnace oil increased by 10% and the price of RLNG increased by 40%. During this period, the price of electricity purchased from CPPA also increased by 9%. Due to fluctuations in fuel prices in the global market, utility fuel charges adjustment is used to change the power generation and generation mix. This increase is passed on to the consumers through their monthly bills under a fixed formula after scrutiny and approval by NEPRA. Consumers also benefit from lower fuel prices.
