Due to Rapidly Melting Glaciers, Floods are Coming to North Pakistan

Floods have hit several places in northern Pakistan in the past week. Extreme heat has caused glaciers to melt faster, causing more water to flow into streams. Extreme levels of flood danger in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Seven people have been deid in one week in these areas and many families have been displaced. Many districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are still flooded and many are at risk of death. 

Relief efforts are underway by the Pakistan Army and Rescue. They are helping people to evacuate and trying to get them to safety. Aid agencies are helping people and trying to deliver food. International aid agencies are providing food and medical assistance to people. Bridges have collapsed due to floodwaters، People’s homes have collapsed and businesses have collapsed. Due to heavy rains, the flow of water in the river and lake has increased and it has taken the form of flood. If the monsoon rains continue, there is a risk of severe flooding in the northern areas. Government agencies are taking steps to address this situation and are doing their best to help the people
