Bollywood Actors Who Work Without Pay
The budget of the highest grossing films in the Indian film industry is often in the billions and a large part of it goes to the actors working in the film.But according to the Times of India, there are some great actors in such a large Indian film industry who have acted in unpaid films and films that have been seen by millions of people in cinemas.Deepika Padukone:Indian actress Deepika Padukone is considered one of the most popular actresses of today and her first big screen film in Bollywood was ‘Om Shanti Om’ in which she worked with Shah Rukh Khan.But very few people know that they made this film without any compensation from the filmmakers.
Prince Rao:Rajkumar Rao is one of the leading actors in the Indian film industry and his films are not always commercial but he also often works in arts films.
One of his films was ‘Trapped’,about which Prince Rao himself says that ‘some films are not for the box office but for life.’He added: “Fifty years from now,when I am gone and people talk about my 10 films,they will be trapped at the top.”
Rajkumar Rao did not charge for Vikram Aditya Motwani’s film.
Sonam Kapoor:Sonam Kapoor,daughter of India’s most famous actor Anil Kapoor,had a brief role in the film ‘Bhaag Makha Bhaag’ which was released in 2013 for which she was paid only 11 rupees and this was confirmed by director Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra in his book I have done
Amitabh Bachchan:Bollywood tycoon Amitabh Bachchan wrote in a blog on the completion of 12 years of his film ‘Black’ in 2017 that he did this film with Rani Mukherjee without any money.”I just wanted to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and when the opportunity arose,it was good and I did not get paid for the film,” he wrote.
Shahid Kapoor:Shahid Kapoor’s film ‘Haider’, which travels from a dancer to a mainstream hero, was released in 2014.According to filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj,when the project started,he and Shahid Kapoor decided that the budget of the film was too high and we should not put more money on it.Vishal Bhardwaj further said that Shahid Kapoor did not take money for this film and there was a secret between them.
Nawaz-ud-Din Siddiqui:Nawaz-ud-Din Siddiqui had played the role of Saadat Hussain Manto in the film ‘Manto’ and it is very difficult to do justice to such a big personality.
The director of the film, Nandita Das, said in an interview that “it was a role for which an actor can do anything, but not taking any money for this film is a big deal.”
Nawaz-ud-Din had taken only one rupee for this film.
Salman Khan:Known as the brother of Bollywood, Salman Khan has also acted in many films including ‘Tes Mar Khan’, ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazb Kahani’, ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Son of Sardar’. So they did not take any compensation.
